I Need Air!

Apologies for the large resolution. I didn't think about that before making the game. You may have to zoom out in your browser to see the whole game.

DIRECTIONS: One button game: Push -SPACE BAR- to jump and to grab onto platforms above for a jump boost.

You're stuck in a toxic cave, and your only source of breathable air is the oxygen bubbles! Grab the oxygen bubbles to increase your oxygen! Running into Slime will reduce your oxygen reserve.

This is an endless procedurally generated runner, so the game never ends (especially since I ran out of game jam time and the game doesn't stop after oxygen reaches zero, so consider it a soft death at zero lol)

This is our entry for the 2025 48-Hour GGJ (Global Game Jam).

Theme: Bubble

Game Style: Endless randomly generated side scrolling platformer.

Created in the newest version of GameMaker Studio 2

Due to my schedule, I was able to work on this game for 16ish hours. When I came up with the game style and concept, I knew I wanted to do something fairly simple and procedurally generated so that I didn't have to worry about level design too much.

I had wanted to include gaps in the ground and power-ups, but the way I had programmed the floor was sloppy, so I didn't have time to fix that to work it in. I also wanted power-ups in some of the bubbles, but ultimately didn't have time for that either.

Overall, I enjoyed creating the game, and left it as-is once the jam ended. I feel for 16ish hours of work, there's a lot here for one person. I started developing video games early last year for a few months, and left it for a while due to life, and just came back to it starting with this jam, so I'm happy with what was created considering as little experience as I have and myself just coming back to developing after almost 8 months.

The team consisted of:

- Zontopho on the soundtrack (Amazing work!)

- MagneticPickle (myself) on concept, design, programming, some art (the bubble lol), testing, etc.

Assets were used, some paid, some free. I will upload the full list later.

- Slime: Will Tice (find their work on Itch.io)

Thank you for checking out our game!

- MagneticPickle and Zontopho

Edit: Sorry, I realized I forgot to "unpause" the slime, so I went in and turned it back on in the code so it's moving again. Thank you for understanding.
